The Seventh Sunday of Easter – Ascension Sunday

Join us this morning at 10 a.m. for the Seventh Sunday of Easter, also known as Ascension Sunday

This Sunday, the 7th Sunday of Easter, we continue with our online offering of Morning Prayer. A general theme in our readings is Jesus's handing over his ministry to those who follow him. Psalm 68 praises God who sees us through trying times. Acts 1:6-14 tells of the Apostles witnessing Jesus' ascension and hearing his promise of the Holy Spirit. After seeing his ascension they return to Jerusalem, devoting themselves in prayer with other women and men. In John 17:1-11, Jesus prays for the protection and well-being of his disciples to continue with his and their mission in anticipation of his departure from them.

Many parishioners will be familiar with Morning Prayer as a result of growing up using the 1928 Book of Common Prayer. Until the mid – late 1970’s, Morning Prayer was the primary Sunday service with Holy Communion celebrated once a month.  The advent of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer (the one we currently use) established Holy Communion as the primary service on Sundays.
