For this Sunday's online service of Morning Prayer we welcome the participation of members of Clifton Lutheran Church, Marblehead, in the liturgy. Pastor Jim Bixby will read the lessons and will co-preach with Fr. Andrew. Members of the Clifton Lutheran choir will offer an opening hymn. Fr. Andrew will read the lessons for Clifton Lutheran's 10:00 a.m. Sunday service, which will include Raymond Hawkin's prelude and postlude, the closing hymn by Raymond and Sarah, and the co-preached sermon by Pastor Jim and Fr. Andrew.

The joint service is being offered in part to commemorate Agnis, a "woman servant" to the Samuel Russel family, who died in 1718 and was buried in Marblehead's Old Burial Hill. A tombstone marking her grave read "Agnis, Woman Servant, to Samuel Russel, Ages about 43 years, Dec'd July Ye 12th 1718." It disappeared in the 1970's. Another was installed in a different location noting "Agnes Negro 1714. Pastor Jim, as a Member of the Marblehead Racial Justice Team, is heading an effort to re-mark her grave. St. Michael's parish records indicate that "Agnes, a negro woman, was baptized on March 11, 1716." It is quite possible this is the same woman. (Thanks to Frances Nilsson for her research work in the Church's files into Agnes and the Russell and Elbridge families.)
